Safety as a Fundamental Value
At Suzano, safety is more than a concept; it is an essential value that permeates our daily commitment. Safety is an integral part of our operations, going beyond accident prevention and promoting a culture of care and respect. To this end, we continuously invest in proactive tools that strengthen our employees' daily lives.
Using an advanced digital platform, we identify and map risks related to people, processes and infrastructure. This system allows us to manage work patterns, effectively correct deviations, and promote critical analysis to improve safety performance.
In 2024, the platform stood out as a strategic tool, offering managers a clear vision for identifying and dealing with potential causes of incidents. This assertive approach has expanded our membership among operational managers, technicians, and specialists and enabled us to have tighter control over the work of service providers.
The impact of these tools is reflected in the Safety Indicator (SI), which continuously measures and guides the evolution of safety processes and culture, promoting qualitative and quantitative improvements. In addition, we hold meetings known as “Safety Dialogues,” conducted daily for operational teams across all industrial and forestry units, and weekly for administrative staff. The goal is to foster a transparent and open environment for questions and answers between leadership and employees, where topics such as health, safety, quality of life, and working conditions are discussed.
Results and Plans
Even with advances in safety, 2024, we face the challenge of a fatal accident.
With the Cuidar Program in all units, we focus on preserving life and training safe behavior. Last year, we implemented 246 actions in the forestry and industrial units, and in 2025, we plan to expand this impact, prioritizing both our employees and suppliers.
During the 2024 Internal Workplace Accident Prevention Week (Sipat), we promoted the theme "Care that leads, an attitude that protects!" engaging around 50,000 people from various areas, such as industrial units, forestry, DCs, and ports.
Management and Prevention Initiatives
Suzano has safety committees and subcommittees in all its units in partnership with the Internal Accident Prevention Commissions (Cipa). Our Safety, Health, and Quality of Life Management System, certified to ISO 45001 and ISO 9000 standards, covers 100% of our own and third-party workers based on the PDCA cycle and the best national and international practices.
In 2024, we consolidated the impact of the BomSenso Program, aimed at organizing and standardizing the work environment, ensuring better operating conditions and greater employee satisfaction. We currently have 225 certified areas, divided into Diamond (55), Gold (66), Silver (78) and Bronze (26) levels. Our goal for 2025 is to expand these certifications while maintaining excellence in already certified areas.
Well-being and Quality of Life
Our Suzano Faz Bem program continues to be a milestone in health and quality of life, positively impacting our employees and their families. It focuses on pillars such as physical, mental, social, preventive, and ergonomic health, offering comprehensive support and benefits accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In 2024, actions such as:
Another significant advance was the delivery of new private spaces, such as breastfeeding corners and reading areas, and maintaining 24-hour medical clinics in the main units.
External recognition
For the second year running, we were recognized in the 27th edition of the National Quality of Life Award, promoted by the Brazilian Quality of Life Association (ABQV). This achievement reinforces our commitment to maintaining health and well-being as a central part of our corporate strategy. Out of more than 150 entries, only 28 companies were awarded, highlighting the relevance of our work in this scenario.
