Suzano's diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) journey has been making significant progress since 2019. We understand that to take intentional actions that reflect the company's reality, we need to measure numerous indicators that point to the demographics of our workforce. Only in this way will we be able to draw up targeted and practical actions that can leverage the figures towards the Commitments to Renew Life (CPRVs) defined by the company. 

The data presented in this indicator takes into account information from Suzano, the Ecofuturo Institute, and Facepa, which the company fully incorporated in 2020—thus, its data is now reported in a consolidated manner with the company's indicators.

Additionally, in 2021, FuturaGene was merged into Suzano. In the 2022 cycle, the 2020 and 2021 reports were revised, so that the data is now reported in a consolidated manner. In 2023, it acquired Kimberly-Clark's tissue business in Brazil and, in 2024, it acquired two Pactiv Evergreen plants in the United States.

To be classified as a STEM employee, the professional must have a STEM-related qualification and make use of these skills in their operational position. Positions include, but are not limited to: computer programmer, web developer, statistician or logistician, engineer, physicist and scientist.

Additional information

In 2020, in partnership with a company specializing in research methodology, Suzano developed an instrument to assess the perception of an inclusive environment for our male and female employees. This way, in addition to monitoring the representativeness of multi-generations in the company, we monitor this index on a generational basis.

The most recent study, from February 2020, points to a high favorability, with a result of 87.6%. This study shows the results by region, which allows us to propose specific actions that meet the needs of our people and the business. According to the "Fale a Real" survey, in 2023, the perception of an inclusive environment in the company increased to 88%.

In 2022, Suzano hired 130 people with disabilities (PwD). 861,000 BRL were invested in actions to train the talent attraction team, the formation of a CV database, a program to train the PwD workforce, internal awareness and literacy events, the application of a survey to measure an inclusive environment, internal training, the translation of content into Brazilian sign language (Libras, for its acronym in Portuguese), actions to guarantee accessibility for people with disabilities and job mapping.

All these initiatives encourage an increase in the representation of people with disabilities at Suzano. These actions had a noticeable result in 2024, with the hiring of 216 people with disabilities and, consequently, an increase in the representation of this group in the company. Even so, efforts to boost these numbers will be amplified in 2025.

Between 2021 and 2024, there was an increase of 6 percentage points in the representation of women in the Central-West Region, which can be attributed mainly to efforts to train and develop women in forestry and industrial operations. As a result of recently created opportunities, such as the Cerrado Project, Suzano has structured itself to attract, develop and retain women in the operation, which has generated a significant flow of new vacancies in the region.

In 2024, the company's representation of Indigenous people significantly increased, with more excellent representation in the Central-West Region, due to the growth of operations in Três Lagoas (MS) and the start of operations in Ribas do Rio Pardo (MS), the company's new plant, which began operating in 2024.

Regarding race, the number of self-declared "black" and "pardos" people also increased, thanks to the internal team's encouragement for employees to fill in the self-declaration form, to increase the representation of Black people in the company.
