1.47 million
hectares of eucalyptus forest areas.
1 million
hectares of native forest areas.
884 thousand
native trees planted for total restoration in the year 2022.
12 million
of native trees planted since the beginning of the Ecological Restoration Program in 2010.
The nursery seedlings are destined to forestry, where occurs the planting and maintenance of eucalyptus forests. The main activities related to planting trees are: chemical cleaning mechanized pre-planting, mechanized soil preparation, mechanized planting fertilization, planting, irrigations mechanized and semi-mechanized and replanting. The maintenance consists on a set of activities carried out after from the planting phase to the harvest phase (5 to 7 years), to ensure good growth and forest productivity. The main forest maintenance activities are: manual or mechanical mowing, chemical or mechanical weeding, fertilization, combating leaf-cutting ants, protection against fires and control of pests and diseases.
Planting can be carried out in renovation areas (where there was the planting of eucalyptus) or implantation (where there were no eucalyptus plantations). Suzano implements forestry only in areas that do not have native forest.

In addition to the planted forest, Suzano also conserves one of the largest areas of private native forest in Brazil. Our forestry units are included in different forest cover mosaics (i.e., alternating planted forest and native forest), which allows sheltering diverse phytophysiognomies of the biomes, contribute to the preservation of various species and the constant removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, as the next popup describes.
It is always valid to say that we DO NOT DEFOREST. We even have a zero deforestation commitment, according to our public position. On the contrary, Suzano only plants in areas previously degraded, resulting in a positive contribution of soil recovery and removal of carbon from the atmosphere.
