context

In 2024, Suzano distinguished itself through its innovative efforts to prevent and fight fires in its forest areas, making significant investments in technology and monitoring strategies. The company adopted advanced mathematical modeling tools that enable more accurate predictions of fire risks. These tools analyze conditions that can lead to fire outbreaks, allowing for a more efficient approach to prevention.

Furthermore, the company has invested in state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, increasing the use of predictive technologies. This has facilitated the early identification of potential fire outbreaks, allowing for quicker and more effective preventive measures..

The company has a qualified team of firefighters who undergo annual refresher training to ensure their technical knowledge and enhance their ability to respond quickly and effectively to various fire situations. Suzano has also expanded its monitoring infrastructure by installing 133 towers across its forest areas in Brazil, with an additional 28 units currently being installed. This initiative increases the company’s capacity for real-time monitoring, which includes the use of satellite detection.

In 2024, Brazil experienced one of the most severe forest fire situations in decades. Nonetheless, the company significantly reduced the area affected by these fires thanks to its strategic approaches and advanced technologies. However, adverse weather conditions and criminal activities increased damage to preservation areas in the states of Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, and São Paulo. In contrast, the affected preservation areas in Bahia and Espírito Santo were reduced by 94% and 53%, respectively, compared to 2023, demonstrating the effectiveness of the company's strategies.

The following information can be found in the tables below:

  • Number of fire outbreaks in Suzano areas;
